How do I filter a register?
- The box is at the top of the register, beside its own controls.
- These registers have one: your crew, your clients, your suppliers, your claims, your variations, your quoting book, your contract lines, your statements, your documents, your handover items and your photo albums.
- So do this week’s roster, your pay run, the cashflow table on Reports and the claim run across every job.
- Type any part of what you want. It matches inside a word and ignores capitals, so kell finds Kellard Constructions.
- Several words narrow it more, and they can come from different columns. On the quoting book, kellard marsden finds the quote you priced for that builder on that job.
- It filters the rows already on your screen and does not ask YourCA again. So it answers as fast as you type.
- A figure that adds up the rows changes with the filter, and says so. On your contract lines, the total shows Total of the 2 shown.
- A figure about something other than the rows never stays above them without a note.
- What a builder never answered is the same, whichever of their claims you look at. So on the claim run, those three figures leave the screen while a filter runs. They do not seem to count rows they do not count.
- A search that matches nothing says so in its own words. It does not use the empty state of the register, which means something completely different, such as build claim 1 or hire somebody.
- It also says how many rows are behind the search, and has the press that brings them back. So you never need to find the box again to undo it.
- Most registers also have a Filter beside the box. It works with the box, not in place of it. The Filter sets what kind of row to show, and the box sets which one.
- Most choices show their count. You pick one at a time, or one from each group where the Filter has groups. Pick it again to clear it.
- Your crew narrows by role, trade, how somebody is engaged, sign-in or tickets running out. Your people in Company admin narrow by sign-in, trade role or role profile.
- Suppliers narrow by role or trade. Clients narrow by whether they are in your directory, crew on site now or open quotes.
- Claims narrow by status or overdue. Variations narrow by status, written notice or whether the work is finished.
- Insurances narrow by status or kind of policy. The company library narrows by category or status.
- ITP plans narrow by status or open points. Non-conformances narrow by status, severity or past the put-right date.
- Delays narrow by notice, cause not answered or still running.
- The order register on Procurement narrows by status, flag or who buys, or shows its archived lines.
- The risk register in a contract review narrows by legal advice, status, severity or type. The quoting book narrows by the status of each quote.
- On the two smallest registers, the insurances and the work orders, the box shows when there are more than five rows. Below that, the whole list is already on the screen.
- A dropdown you pick from is not a register. It has its own box at the top of the open list, with the cursor already in it.
- Every job picker has one, however many jobs you run. So you type into the roster, Hours, a site capture and the Reports job filter. You do not scroll them. The job number finds a job as well as its name does.
- In other lists, the box shows when the list has more than eight choices.
Worth knowing
The filter never changes a record and never sends anything. Clear the box and every row comes back immediately. Empty it yourself, or press the button on the state that says nothing matched. On a register with a Filter beside the box, and on Hours, that press clears the Filter too, because those narrow on more than the word you typed. The button says so. One thing changes while you filter: on your contract lines, the up and down arrows stop working, because the line they would swap with may not be on the screen. Clear the box and they work again. If you do not know which register a thing is on, use the slash key. It reads every register and takes you to the row.
