The builder compares quotes. You build one from nothing, often at night, for a job you may not win. When you do win, the priced lines get typed again into a claim schedule.

    The risk it heads off

    • An exclusion left off the quote turns into free work on site.Your standard exclusions and clarifications go on every quote.
    • The builder accepts an old revision of your quote. An issued quote is frozen. A change raises a new revision, so each one names one price.
    • The claim schedule is retyped after you win and never adds up.The schedule comes from the accepted quote, to the cent.

The builder sends drawings. You walk the site to see what they do not show, with a notepad, a marked-up print and a camera roll. Back at the desk it all gets sorted and typed again.

    The risk it heads off

    • A note from the site walk never makes it onto the quote, and the work it flagged is done for free.A note goes on the quote in one press, and the walk shows which notes are already there.

The builder sends a set of drawings and a date. You print them, run a scale rule over every room, add it up on a calculator and type the totals into the quote. When a revision lands you do it again.

    The risk it heads off

    • A void is left in the area, or a room is counted twice, and the price is wrong on every line it feeds.Every shape sits on the sheet in its layer colour, cut outs take their area away, and each layer shows how many shapes it holds.
    • A quantity changes on the drawing and the quote still carries the old one.A line sent from a layer follows it while the quote is a draft, and says Typed once somebody types over it.

How we counted

Where do the minutes come from?
Each figure is an estimate of how long each task takes a commercial subcontractor with no contracts administrator, based on real construction experience.
What does by hand mean?
Paper, Word, email and the photos on your phone. Excel means the same work with a spreadsheet you keep up yourself.
What is left for me to do in YourCA?
Reading, checking and pressing. You still decide, sign and send every document yourself. YourCA never sends anything to the builder for you.
Why does the crew size change the figure?
Rostering, hours and pay take longer for every person on the job. Work you do once for the whole business, such as checking who owes you, is shared across the jobs you run.
Does the figure count losses you avoid?
No. A variation that is not barred or a claim served on the right day is worth far more than the hours, but it is not counted here.
