How YourCA works, step by step.

What certificates do I need?

What it does today

YourCA covers New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria. New South Wales is a whole certifier review list: a hundred and sixty measures across every trade on it. So it covers a builder, a partitioner, a waterproofer, a glazier, a floorer, a structural engineer and a lift contractor, as well as the services trades. Queensland and Victoria have one measure each. Queensland is the one aspect certificate, on Form 43, which YourCA holds and fills in its own boxes. Victoria is plumbing work only. Section 221ZH says a document is not a compliance certificate unless the form came from the Authority, so nobody can produce that one here. In the other five states YourCA drafts nothing. You can search the catalogue in every state and trade. If yours is not covered, open the nearest measure and read exactly what YourCA needs. Not covered means YourCA has not read the source yet. It never means that no certificate is required.

  1. Start with the card at the top, The certifier’s list. Drop in the list the certifier sent you before the occupation certificate. It names what they want certified.
  2. YourCA reads the measure names from it. It shows each one with the line of your document it came from. It is a drop field, so drag the file on or press Choose a file.
  3. Nothing YourCA reads goes on your job by itself. Press Add to this job on the rows that are yours. That makes the list yours, not something a document decided.
  4. The standards come across word for word from the OC RFI and go onto the certificate. The certifier checks against their own wording. If the OC RFI states none, the certificate cites what YourCA holds. Every row says which of the three sources it came from.
  5. Each one is a field you type into, with Add a standard underneath it and a way to take one off. To put back the standards YourCA holds, press once.
  6. Editions change, and a specification sometimes names a later edition than YourCA holds. Correct this yourself.
  7. You never have to drop in a file. Instead, search the catalogue and press Add to this job on what you need. The New South Wales list has a hundred and sixty measures. You can search them by name, state or trade.
  8. Take one off with Take off this job. That removes it from this job only. The catalogue does not change. A certificate you already signed does not change either. You withdraw a signed certificate by name, and YourCA keeps the reason against the record.
  9. On this job is the list you work through. Under it, YourCA recommends the measures read for your trade in this job's state. A recommendation is a guess about your job from a setting about your business. That is why the OC RFI outranks it.
  10. YourCA records the certificates you hold, with their details, inside the certificate and not on the list. You record one as signed after you read what you signed.
  11. What YourCA can DRAFT is a separate question, and the certificate answers it, not the list. If you open a certificate your trade does not certify, or one read for another state, the certificate names the refusal and produces nothing.
  12. Outside the state a measure was read for, its clause number prints with no instrument named against it. A number on its own is not a citation.
  13. Every field on the certificate is an input. YourCA fills it from your business profile, this job or the OC RFI, and names the source beside it.
  14. If you change a field, the change stays on that certificate. YourCA saves it against the job and never writes it back to your business profile. If you empty a field, the original source fills it again, so there is nothing to undo.
  15. YourCA never fills in one field: which part of the building the certificate covers. That decides how much of the building your signature covers. The field arrives empty, with that reason. You cannot sign the certificate until you write it.
  16. A row saying 2 to fix before signing means two items on the certificate are not finished. Examples are a field nobody filled, a schedule row with no fire resistance level, or a standard past the date YourCA holds it as checked to.
  17. Open the certificate to see the list. Each item has a press that takes you to it. For a field, the press puts the cursor in the box you must fill in. Ready to sign means nothing is left. It does not mean YourCA signed anything.
  18. Some reasons are not work at all: a measure another trade certifies, a measure read for another state, and a measure whose published form YourCA cannot hold, which is Victoria’s. These reasons have no press, because nothing on the certificate changes them. If every reason on a certificate is one of these, the row and the certificate say in the way of signing, not to fix.
  19. You sign it on the certificate itself. Tick each of the three statements. Your name, your licence number and today’s date are already in, and you can still edit them.
  20. For the mark, use the signature your account holds. Or draw one with a finger. Or photograph one you signed on white paper. Use as many strokes as you need for a drawn signature. Press Use this signature when it is right.
  21. A certificate with anything still to fix has no signing controls. It comes out marked DRAFT and unsigned. The three statements are still there to read, as empty boxes you cannot tick. That block says how many items are left, with a button that takes you to them.
  22. You can file a drafted certificate on this job's own O&M pack. Choose Add to the O&M pack in the sheet. Pick the part of your works it certifies. It files under Certification. Nothing is sent to the builder: you still serve it yourself.
  23. What you must produce depends on the state the site is in. Certification is a state matter, not a national one.
  24. YourCA works out that state before it asks you. The state you set on the job comes first. If you did not set one, YourCA reads the governing law clause from the contract it reviewed. The section says that it did this.
  25. The section only asks you when neither source has an answer. Your answer there sets the state on the job itself. Your claim dates use the same state.
  26. If the job and the contract name different states, the section says so. It does not choose one without telling you. YourCA draws the list under the job's state, because certification follows where the work is. It names both states, so you can change the job if the site is really in the other one.
  27. If the site is in a different state from the one the contract names, set the state on the job. Certification follows where the work is, not what a governing law clause says. From then on, the job's own answer comes first.
  28. In New South Wales, you produce the measures on a certifier occupation certificate review list, cited to their clause numbers.
  29. In Queensland, you produce the QBCC licensee aspect certificate under section 70 of the Building Regulation 2021. You give it on the approved form, Form 43, to the building certifier or to the competent person who does the inspection. On accepted development, you give it to the builder or the owner on Form 30 instead.
  30. That Queensland certificate applies only to houses, sheds, garages, carports and pools. Section 68 limits the division to a single detached class 1a building or a class 10 building or structure. On a unit block or a commercial job it does not apply, and YourCA has not read what does.
  31. In Victoria, you produce the compliance certificate for plumbing work under section 221ZH of the Building Act 1993. You have five days from the end of the work to give a signed certificate to the person you did it for.
  32. You must also tell the Building and Plumbing Commission that you gave it. The Commission replaced the Victorian Building Authority in July 2025. People often miss this second part.
  33. Where a form is prescribed, YourCA produces that exact published form, filled in. If it cannot, it produces nothing and says why. It never produces a redrawn copy.
  34. YourCA holds two prescribed forms: the New South Wales Certificate of Compliance for plumbing and drainage work, and Queensland’s Form 43.
  35. On those, the certificate offers Download the draft. This is the published PDF with your property, licensee and scope details in its own boxes, and every box is still editable. When nothing is left to fix, you add a date and your mark, and press Download it signed.
  36. YourCA leaves blank on the published form what it does not hold. It does not guess. On the New South Wales certificate, that is the description of the work, the tick boxes, the owner, the lot, the council, the dates and the fee.
  37. On Form 43, that is the licence class, the building class, the lot and plan and the certifier’s reference. Fill those in before you lodge the form.
