How YourCA works, step by step.

How do I use the keyboard shortcut?

  1. From any screen, press Cmd K (Ctrl K on Windows) or the forward slash key. Or press Search in the menu on the left. On a phone, press Search on the bottom bar.
  2. The box opens over your screen. When it closes, you are still in the same place.
  3. Before you type, it lists the things you can record on this job. This is the same list as the button in the middle of the bottom bar on a phone.
  4. Type part of a name to go there. For example, var offers Variations, and a job name or number switches to that job.
  5. It offers only the tabs and sections your access reaches.
  6. Type at least two letters to search the records too.
  7. Results come back grouped by kind, newest first. Use the up and down arrows to move through the box. Press Enter to open a result.
  8. You do not need to know which tab it was filed under. That was our filing decision, not yours.
  9. For example, the same slab pour is an arrival if it came by email, a request for information if somebody asked about it, a diary line if it happened, and an inspection point if it was held.
  10. Open a result to go to the row itself, on the correct job and section, with the row marked. Back takes you to where you searched from.
  11. If the job switcher is on All projects, it searches every job you have open, and names the job on each result. That is how you find which job something was on.
  12. Every word you type must appear. So a second word narrows the answer. It does not widen it.
  13. A claim has no words of its own, so search for it by its number. Type claim 7.
  14. It searches the jobs you are on, and only those.
  15. An Owner or an Office account searches every job the business holds. Other people search their own jobs.
  16. That is the same rule as the job switcher. So search and what you can open always agree.
Worth knowing

Nothing found is a real answer. It is different from Type at least two letters, which the box shows while you are still typing a word. If you expected a row and it is not there, first check the job switcher. A search on a single job leaves every other job out, on purpose. If the row is on a job you are not on yet, search does not find it either. To fix that, somebody must put you on that job. The search is not the problem.
