How do I split a line into labour and materials?
- Find the line on the Quote tab. Press Price the labour and materials for this line, under it.
- When a line has parts, the same press reads Show or Hide the labour and materials, with their total beside it.
- Add each part: labour, materials, plant or subcontract, with your own words beside it. Two metres of trenching is not two lots of a rate. It is six hundred dollars of labour and two hundred of pipe.
- The line's amount follows the parts as you add them. If the line has a quantity, YourCA works out the rate per unit from that amount. You do not type it. The rate column says it came from cost.
- Remove a part, and the amount goes back down. Empty the whole build up, and the line keeps its amount, priced as a lump.
- A part you picked from a supplier price list follows the line's quantity, because what you picked is the price for one.
- A part you typed yourself does not follow the quantity. Two labourers for four hours is the whole labour cost on this line.
- Each picked part has its own Qty box, which starts at the line's own number. Change it where the count is different, and that part stops following the line. Three bathrooms take three pan suites but six floor wastes.
- Clear the box, and the part follows the line again.
Worth knowing
These figures are your own working. No builder ever sees them, on any exported quote, whatever the section prints. They are what the work costs YOU. What the builder pays is these figures plus your margin row.
