How do I add an optional item to a quote?
- Add the line in the section it belongs to and tick optional. It shows under Options with its own figure. YourCA adds it to nothing.
- A deduct works the same way, with a negative figure. Use it for an alternative that saves the builder something.
- A prime cost sum and a provisional sum are a different setting on the line. They are not the same as optional.
- Both are allowances, not fixed prices. A prime cost sum is an amount set aside for something nobody has chosen yet. A provisional sum is for work whose extent nobody knows yet. Both are included in your total.
- That setting follows the line into the contract value schedule when the builder accepts the quote. The schedule then knows which of its lines were allowances that are expected to move.
- An optional line always prints its own figure on the exported document, whatever you print for the rest of that section. An option without a price is not an offer.
Worth knowing
Optional and allowance are different. An optional line is outside the price until the builder accepts it. An allowance is inside the price but is expected to move. If you mix them up, you change what you offered.
