How YourCA works, step by step.

How do I set up a new project?

  1. The quickest way is to ask the assistant. Say "I want to start a new job". It asks what a job needs, one question at a time, and shows you all of it back. When you press the button, it puts the job on your list. The steps below set up the same job by hand, and both ways end in the same place.
  2. Open the job switcher at the top of the menu on the left. It is the control that names the job you are on. Press Start a new job at the foot of it.
  3. The same press is on Your jobs, which is See every job in that switcher. With no job open, every tab also has a Start a new job button. A new account's Dash has Start your first job on its setup list.
  4. On a phone, that control does not fit at the top. It is in the panel behind Tabs on the bar at the bottom, under Which job, with the same rows and the same Start a new job.
  5. Give it the Job name and Your job number. It needs only those two. YourCA fills in the number for you, after your last one. The builder, the builder's job number and the site are optional. You can add them later on Job details.
  6. As you type the builder, the builders you already work with show under the box. Pick one, so the same builder is never spelt two ways.
  7. Set Which state is the job in. That one field decides the security of payment rules for every date on the job. A job typed as New South Wales when it is in Victoria shows the wrong deadlines all the way through. If you are unsure, leave it blank; do not guess. YourCA then tells you which dates it cannot work out.
  8. If the contract or order came with the job, add it on the same panel under The contract or order. Press Choose a file or drop it there. Add the accepted quote under The accepted quote beside it, as a spreadsheet, CSV, PDF or Word file. The button then reads Start the job and read both files.
  9. The job then starts and both files are filed on it. The contract review starts on the contract, with the builder and state you gave. The Dash opens a walk called What your files say: one sheet per tab. Each sheet shows what the file would write there, and the clause or quote line it was read from.
  10. Press Accept on a sheet to write it to that tab. Press Accept all once you have read every sheet. Nothing is written until you press. Your included review covers the contract. With none left, the walk says so and the review waits on the Contract tab.
  11. Press Start the job. It goes on your list and opens on its Dash.
  12. On the demonstration account there is no file box. Press Use the sample contract and quote instead. The same walk opens on the sample job's own contract, replayed as it was read: the six terms land after about forty seconds, the full review after about four minutes. Accept marks each sheet in the walk only; the tabs of a job started in the demonstration are not filled from it.
  13. Two things change that. First, only a person whose role can open the Contract tab sees the contract box.
  14. Second, if your free job is used and you have not subscribed, the panel says so above the button. There is no contract box, and the new job opens on its Quote tab. Quoting stays free; every other tab needs the subscription.
  15. Otherwise, send YourCA the contract as soon as you have it. Drop it on the Dash or the Contract tab, or tell the assistant to read your contract with the job open. Until YourCA reads it, there is no reference date, no payment term and no notice period. Those stay blank; YourCA does not guess them.
Worth knowing

A job you started stays live forever, so wrapping one up costs nothing and gives nothing back. Wrapping up never closes the record either. Financials, Handover and receiving documents stay open through the retention tail. One thing can stop you before any of that. If you are not an Owner or an Office account, and you are not on your company crew list, YourCA refuses to start a job. You see the jobs you are on, and a job started by a person on nobody’s list would not show up for them. Ask your office to add you to the crew list, then start it again.
