How do I start an inspection and test plan?
- Open Site, then ITPs, then press Start a plan on the band.
- Pick the trade first. It sets the stages the plan opens with, and which ready-made plans you see.
- Then press one of three things.
- Your own templates are the plans you saved from a finished job.
- The ready-made plans are YourCA plans, one per trade, and the card says so.
- Build it by hand opens the same plan empty, with the stages your trade uses and no points in them.
- The plan opens immediately. A template or a ready-made plan brings its points across. Each point already has its acceptance criteria, how it is answered and what evidence it needs. You can change all of them.
- The plan then asks for two things only: what it covers, and its reference.
- YourCA fills in the reference, and it shows the trade. A plumber gets ITP-HYD-01 and an electrician gets ITP-ELE-01. Each trade on the job has its own numbers.
- If you change the trade before you start, the reference follows. If you type your own, it stops following, because many builders number plans their own way.
- These details are under The rest of the plan's details: where on the job it applies, who runs it, who signs it off and who gets the finished copy. None of them stops you starting the plan.
- If one plan on the job does not load, the rest of the register still shows, and that one plan says so. It has Try again on it.
- Press Start the plan. It opens as a draft.
- The page moves to the new plan, so the stages you fill in are in front of you. They are not below the plans already on the job.
- Add, change or remove any point. Rename or reorder any stage. The point numbers follow the position of each point, so you never type one.
- The numbered rows on a plan are its WORK STAGES, and the screen calls them that. They are the phases of the trade's work. For a plumber they are In ground, Under slab, Rough in, Pressure test, Fit off and Commissioning.
- A plan built BY HAND opens with no stages. YourCA headings would only be headings for you to delete, not yours to write.
- Press Add a stage to add one of your own. Or use the offer beside it to take the whole set with one press.
- A ready-made plan or a saved template brings its own stages.
- Stages are not the inspection points, and not a list of tasks. Your points go inside them.
- Press Add a point here on the stage the point belongs to. The point gets its number from its position.
- You can rename a stage, move it, remove a stage you do not use, or add your own.
- On a draft plan, move a point with the handle at the left of its row: the three lines.
- Drag it up or down the plan, or into another stage. Release it where you want it.
- The keyboard also works, and is often quicker. Put the cursor on the handle and press the up or down arrow.
- The point moves one place at a time. It moves out of the bottom of one stage and into the top of the next, including into an empty stage.
- The numbers change when it lands. So a point that becomes the second point of the third stage is 3.2, and you type nothing.
- On a phone there is no handle, because you cannot drag on a touch screen here. Press Move to under the point instead. It puts the point in another stage.
- When you are satisfied with the plan, save it to your templates. The next job then starts from your plan, not from the YourCA plan.
Worth knowing
You can move points only on a DRAFT. After the plan is issued, the builder's copy refers to its numbers. A moved point would leave their 2.4 pointing at something else. The ready-made plans carry no clause numbers, on purpose. If YourCA cited a standard on a plan you give your builder, it would claim an authority it does not have. So each point has a place for the standard or drawing, and you fill it in from your own specification.
