How YourCA works, step by step.

Why is my field blank?

  1. Every value YourCA fills in shows the exact words in the email it came from. It also says whether they were in the subject line, the message or an attachment. For an attachment, that means the words inside it, not only its file name.
  2. No words, no value. That rule is why the values it did fill in are worth something.
  3. So it does not work out a date from end of next week, round a figure, net an amount the message states gross, or decide what the usual retention is. Each of those is a guess that looks like a number. A wrong number on a register can cost somebody the margin on a job.
  4. Type it in yourself. The field is yours and always was. YourCA writes what is on the screen when you press.
  5. Some fields are always left for you, whatever the email says, because they are judgements, not facts a message states. These include what caused a variation, whether an answer costs you time or cost, and when you need a reply. YourCA is never even asked those questions.
  6. Often the figure is inside an attached PDF, not in the covering message. YourCA reads that too, and a value taken from it says so under the field.
  7. There is a limit on how much of one attachment it reads. A file it cannot turn into text gives only its name. If a field you expected is blank, open the attachment from the panel and read the value there.
Worth knowing

A blank is safe and a wrong value is not. That is why it works this way. If a field is filled in and the words underneath do not support it, the value is wrong, and the words are the proof.
