How do I record a delay from an unanswered rfi?
- Open Documents and go to RFIs. If the builder has not answered a question by the date you asked for, it carries a late chip. The chip says how many days it is past.
- Chase the answer and Record the delay are two different acts. Do both. Chase the answer asks them for the answer. Record the delay puts the delay on your diary. You argue for time or cost from the diary.
- Press Record the delay. The days count from the date you asked for an answer by, not from anything YourCA decided.
- If you press it twice, nothing breaks. The same open question never counts as two delays.
Worth knowing
YourCA does not write down whose fault the delay is, and never does. An unanswered question is very often the builder's doing. That is exactly why the product leaves the cause blank. In a dispute, a reason the system chose reads as a finding, and you never chose it. The record says the question was unanswered from the date you set, which is a fact. What it means is yours to argue.
