How YourCA works, step by step.

How do I raise an RFI?

  1. Open RFIs on the Documents tab. Press Raise an RFI at the right of the section band.
  2. The form has two actions. Raise it asks the builder immediately. Save as a draft keeps the question here and asks nobody.
  3. On a phone, the plus in the middle of the bar at the bottom of the screen opens the same form from anywhere. Choose A question for the builder.
  4. This matters on site. The clock should start the moment you know you are blocked.
  5. A draft is under Drafts on the register, with two things to press.
  6. Correct it opens the same form again, and you can change every word. Issue it actually asks the question.
  7. When you issue it, editing stops. The builder holds a copy. So a correction after issue raises a revision that refers to the original. It does not rewrite it.
  8. Set a required by date. If an RFI has no answer after that date, YourCA puts a delay event in your diary, with the RFI as its source.
  9. Each question is one line. It shows the two dates, the status, and at the end the action that writes to the record.
  10. Press the line to open it. It shows the full question, and if a late answer has a cost or a time result.
  11. It also shows the answer when it comes, the papers on each side, and the chase drafted for you to send from your own email.
  12. When the answer comes, record it.
  13. Then close it out on the day you actually accept it. That is often not the day it arrived.
  14. Export, in the open line, asks PDF or Word. It builds the question as a document on your own letterhead.
  15. The document has your business name and logo, your job number and theirs, the question, every date the register holds, and a line that asks them to quote the number in their reply.
  16. The PDF opens for you to print or save. You send it yourself.
  17. A draft has no Export, because a letterhead on a question nobody was asked says it went out.
Worth knowing

A delay argument is built from the turnaround pair: the date it went and the date they answered.
